Trips and Visits

The Days of Wonder Child Care Center is an extremely accessible location in Dobbs Ferry. Within just a few blocks, we are able to take the children on field trips to many local community establishments.

Library - each age group takes a monthly trip to the library, which is prepared beforehand by the librarian. Each visit is different and includes activities such as story time, puppet shows, arts and crafts, and other projects appropriate for the age group.

Police Station - the children are given a tour of the station where they learn about personal safety and how to deal with strangers. Each child is given his or her own special detective badge to take home afterwards.

Fire Station - here the children climb into the trucks and explore the tools and equipment used by firefighters.

Post Office - children buy their own stamps and use the stamps to mail their very own letters.

Local Bagel Shop - the tour of behind-the-scenes bagel making is almost as fun as the taste-test.

Local Florist - children explore different kinds of flowers and learn how they grow, as well as how to care for living plants.

Local Laudromat - this trip fosters what we consider a "life-skill", as children experience first-hand everything from sorting to folding.

Local Supermarket - children bring $1.00 to purchase a small item from the sale flyer. Many skills are incorporated such as fruit and vegetable recognition, responsibility for money, number recognition and purchasing along with making change. There's a bakery treat for everyone at the end.

Park - we take a relaxing train ride to a waterfront park where we picnic and play before the train ride back home.

We also take trips to the Bronx Zoo, museums, local plays and productions, the Greenburg Nature Center, the apple orchard for cidering, and we also have visitors who come to our Center.
